What is CORDURA and why does it make workwear so durable?
Clothing that can keep up with your adventures and activities is not an option but a requirement. That is why we have introduced CORDURA fabric into our collection. With its military-grade durability, this fabric is the foundation for garments optimised for performance.
WHERE DOES CORDURA COME FROM?
This textile has a rich history. CORDURA first appeared in 1929. DuPont created CORDURA fabric for military use in the Second World War.
Originally this fabric was intended for use in vehicles and was sewn into the lining of military tyres to protect them from rough terrain. CORDURA effectively shielded tyres from punctures, wear and tearing in harsh combat conditions.
After the war, DuPont developed a nylon material that temporarily replaced CORDURA. Over time, DuPont found a way to combine nylon and CORDURA and create a superior fabric for durability and weather resistance.
Today CORDURA is woven with various types of nylon, including Lycra. This further increases its durability and strength.
WHAT IS CORDURA USED FOR?
Today this fabric is used in numerous products. CORDURA is a popular material for many hard-wearing products, from gear such as raincoats, work jackets, work blouses and work trousers, to products such as backpacks and tents. Customers looking for outdoor clothing, equipment or accessories will probably come across this fabric sooner or later. CORDURA is in fact as much as 7x stronger and more durable than cotton!
WHAT IS CORDURA NYLON?
When researching CORDURA fabric, what it is and what it is used for, you will probably come across the term "CORDURA Nylon". This is simply another term for CORDURA as we know it today.
In general, CORDURA is blended with other nylon fabrics. Depending on the product, you may also find fabric blended with cotton or other materials. Most CORDURA materials use nylon 6.6, a type of nylon that is stronger than other types of nylon.
KEY PROPERTIES OF CORDURA
Below are a few reasons why CORDURA is such a popular textile in industry today:

Four-way stretch for clothing that moves with you
CORDURA is known for stretching superbly in four directions, especially when combined with nylon. Four-way stretch is simply the fabric's ability to stretch in both directions across its width and in both directions along its length. Whether you are running, climbing, bending or crawling, CORDURA moves with you.
Water-resistant and quick-drying
Another advantage of CORDURA fabric is its resistance to water. When you are moving and active, your body is sure to sweat. On top of that, if you are on more rugged terrain, you may run into rain and water.
Other materials usually slow you down when exposed to moisture. CORDURA helps draw moisture away from the body so you stay comfortable and dry whatever the weather.
In addition, this textile dries quickly. Even if you come into contact with water, CORDURA will not stay wet for long. As it wicks moisture away, it carries it to the surface so you can ventilate, breathe and dry faster.
Breathability: freedom for your skin
Breathability is an important property of clothing. Whether you are at a board meeting or on a mountain trail, being able to breathe gives your skin freedom. Although CORDURA is durable and resistant, it has a special woven construction that allows it to breathe. Do not suffer in hot, stuffy clothing. Let your body breathe.
