DYNEEMA®, A FIBRE STRONGER THAN STEEL
Dyneema®, the world's strongest fibre™, is extremely light and very durable. It boasts properties that matter in workwear, where comfort comes first and durable work clothing goes without saying.
Dyneema® fibres are 15 times stronger than steel at the same weight, with a tensile strength of up to 43 cN/dtex. In addition to its exceptional strength, Dyneema® is also excellent in its resistance to cutting and abrasion and has high resistance to chemicals and UV rays. Dyneema® fibres are so light that they float on water, and they also have a very high modulus (resistance to deformation).
HOW IS DYNEEMA® FIBRE MADE?
Dyneema® fibres are produced in a patented gel-spinning process in which the fibres are drawn, heated, stretched and cooled. The stretching and spinning lead to molecular alignment, high crystallisation and low density. Dyneema® has extremely long molecular chains, which transfer load more effectively to the polymer backbone. As a result, at the same weight Dyneema® fibre is stronger, or lighter at the same strength, than alternative products.
Thanks to its exceptional properties, Dyneema® fibre is particularly valuable in, for example:
- fishing lines
- cut-resistant gloves
- mooring ropes
- air cargo nets
- And now you can also find Dyneema® in some MASCOT knee-pad pockets.
EVERYTHING IS NATURAL WITH DYNEEMA®
Dyneema® is available in white and black. The black colour is built into the fibre and is not merely added as a coating on the surface, where it is most exposed to wear. Materials developed from black Dyneema® fibres will keep their colour even after many hours of use.
A SPECIAL COMBINATION DELIVERS EXCEPTIONAL DURABILITY
Properties such as stretch, high abrasion resistance and low weight are especially important in workwear. Products developed from fibres that increase freedom of movement while maintaining exceptionally high durability are better suited to workwear that is used for many hours day after day. Users need to be confident that their workwear will stand up to their demands. Freedom of movement must not be restricted, the material and functions must not get in the user's way, and the product has to withstand many hours of work, including kneeling and intensive use.
Dyneema® is a fibre that meets all of these challenges, which is why the material for MASCOT's new knee-pad pockets, developed with a special composition of Dyneema®, CORDURA® and Kevlar®, is in a class of its own. In addition, the new knee-pad pockets are constructed with a stretch effect, so the wearer's movement is never restricted.
