Breathing air is supplied to the user from a compressed air cylinder via a pressure reducer, a lung demand valve (LGDV) conforming to EN SIST 137:2006 and a full-face mask conforming to EN SIST136:1998. Exhaled air is released directly into the surroundings.
The MSA M1 can be configured with the SingleLine system, a classic pneumatic system or a fixed pneumatic system. The fixed pneumatic system does not include a built-in medium-pressure coupling for easier separation of the lung demand valve from the pressure reducer.
The backplate consists of an anatomically shaped antistatic plastic plate with two handles for easy carrying of the apparatus. The pressure regulator is at the bottom of the backplate. At the top of the backplate is the cylinder holder with a built-in hose retainer. The shoulder straps and waist belt are adjustable in length.
One or two compressed air cylinders can be mounted on the cylinder holder. The cylinder strap is adjustable. The compressed air breathing apparatus has a modular design, which allows the user to configure the apparatus from the modules available for their requirements.
Pressure regulator
The pressure regulator reduces the cylinder pressure to a medium pressure, which the lung demand valve can reduce further to a pressure suited to the user's breathing. The pressure regulator is designed on the fail-safe principle, which ensures airflow to the user if it malfunctions. The pressure regulator includes a medium-pressure safety valve and a cylinder connection with a sintered filter that catches particles that may be in the air.
In the non-electronic configuration, the pressure regulator can be connected to a manifold equipped with a pressure gauge (showing the cylinder pressure), a low-pressure warning whistle and a connection for the lung demand valve (SL configuration). The pressure regulator can also be connected to a high-pressure hose with a standard pressure gauge and a separate medium-pressure hose with a lung demand valve (classic configuration). The low-pressure warning whistle can be connected directly to the pressure regulator or fitted with a hose and connected to the top of the backplate. In the electronic configuration, the pressure regulator is connected to the SingleLine SCOUT.
Lung demand valve (LGDV)
The M1 SCBA can be used with the following lung demand valves:
