The company Cortelgomma was founded in 1938 by Ruggiero Cortellino; at the time it was a small workshop making shoes that used rubber from military trucks for the soles and the upper part of military uniforms. The founder's passion and enterprise allowed the small workshop to grow within a few years into a company producing hundreds of pairs a day, spread across Italy. In 1983 the company became COFRA and is now run by the founder's son, Giuseppe Cortellino.
